Why would the Big East be interested in those schools if it no longer
sponsored football? If the Big East was going to add DI-FBS schools to the conference, then I would think those schools would want a home for their football programs. It wasn't like G'town and Villanova had any burning desire to switch DI subdivisions. So I don't see them making the switch in subdivisions so the Big East can continue sponsoring DI football. Even if UConn agreed to switch subdivisions, that would only give 6 schools and the conference would need a minimum of 8 to exist. I guess I am also wondering if the Big East would have taken it as a sign and gotten out of the football business all together or at the very least switch to being a DI-FCS conference.
